Stage Drapery & Fabrics and Flame Retardancy - Workshop

Just because it says it's flame retardant, does not mean it is flame retardant.

Often times we stop asking when we hear a particular piece of fabric or drape is flame retardant, but does it meet the standard or application? Rob Dugan facilitates this discussion and explores what flame retardancy is, why you need it (even if it is only on stage for a short period of time) and what to look for in the rating. It will also show how you can test your fabric yourself, with samples of several fabrics to examine.

'Safety Warriors - An Innovative Indigenous Occupational Health & Safety Performance System' - Workshop

Before you can learn about safety, and be a contributor to a culture of safety, you have to be able to recognize both the obvious and not-so-obvious dangers that lurk in our very presence.  Seeing and acknowledging that a situation can pose a threat to the well-being of yourself and others is key to survival.  From there, you can formulate a plan to reduce or eliminate the problem and prevent it from doing harm.  Prepare to have your eyes and mind opened to see the world from a new perspective.

Mr. Friend has been involved with theatre systems design for over 35 years, and is an active member of USITT, OISTAT, ESA, and the ESTA Technical Standards Program. He writes about Theatre Safety in various publications and on the TheatreSafetyBlog at blogspot.com.  He also lectures and provides safety workshops across the US and China.  BBQ and Pizza are his Kryptonite.
